IKEA Family website crashes after receiving over 100k visitors a minute after launch

IKEA Philippines targeted to achieve a record of 100,000 IKEA Family members within the first 24 hours of the launch. But within only the first minute, more than their initial goal have tried to access the site, leading to technical difficulties.

The home furnishing club, which “aims to reach, inspire, and support members in their dream home,” was launched today, July 7. As of this writing, however, the site is still down. “We were prepared for 120,000 sign-ups in the first 24 hours, but as early as 12 midnight, we had more than 100,000 accessing the site in the first minute,” country manager Georg Platzer said in a statement, after expressing his gratitude for the “outpouring of support.”

Stressing that the team is continuously learning and looking to improve their preparation for the opening of its flagship store in the Philippines, he assured Pinoys that they “are hard at work to resolve the issue and the site will be back up again.”

“In the meantime, we ask for your patience and cannot wait to welcome everyone to the IKEA Family,” he added.

Available for free, IKEA Family is open to people who are hoping to improve their lives at home. Various benefits, experiences, and surprises are in store for the members, including reward points and chances to receive exclusive invites to IKEA’s pre-opening events. IKEA Philippines is set to open by the fourth quarter of the year at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, nine weeks after the official launch of its online shop.

“Filipinos’ support has been very overwhelming,” he briefly told PhilSTAR L!FE. “We are full of love and are working hard to make it happen.”
