Another filipino food is making its name in the international scene as all-time favorite Leche Flan is among Taste Atlas' Best Custards in the World.

On Wednesday, August 23, the international food database announced the Top 10 of its Best Rated Custards in the World list, with the Philippines’ leche flan ranking third with 4.5 stars.

It bested other custards including Italy’s Zabaione at 4th; Portugal's Leite de creme, Germany’s Bavarian Cream at 6th, Crema Catalana of Catalonia, Spain, France’s Crème Caramel at 8th; as well as Quindim of Brazil and Argentina’s Flan Mixto at 10th.

United States' Frozen Custard emerged as the best custard in the world following France’s Crème Brûlée in the second spot.

On TasteAtlas' website, leche flan was described as a Filipino dessert that is essentially a caramel custard consisting of milk, sugar, and eggs, with the addition of vanilla flavoring.

It is oval-shaped due to the use of tin molds called llaneras which is very popular at numerous Filipino celebrations and social gatherings

TasteAtlas also recommends serving it chilled and coated with caramel syrup.

Moreover, the dessert was brought over to the Philippines during the Spanish colonization, according to the website.

If you want to try this mouth-watering Filipino dessert, the webiste recommends some restaurants that offer the best leche flan in the country, including Manam Comfort Food, Kabila, Conti’s, Bacolod Chicken Inasal, The Lobby Peninsula, Max’s Restaurant, and Chelsea Kitchen.

Leche flan was also included in TasteAtlas’ 10 Best Rated Filipino Desserts list, alongside other local sweet treats such as sorbetes, bibingka and buko pie.

Last month, three classic Pinoy street snacks made it to an online food guide’s list of 50 best street food sweets in the world. These are taho, maruya, and espasol.
