Pinoys are most willing to travel domestically in SEA but also the most concerned with pandemic, study says

Filipinos are itching to hop on a domestic flight for a vacation, but despite the willingness to travel, they are still the most concerned about their safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was revealed by a study conducted by consumer research company Milieu Insight among travelers from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam last April.

According to the study, respondents from the Philippines and Indonesia are the most willing to travel domestically in Southeast Asia. But while other travelers have expressed the least concern when it comes to traveling, 40% of Pinoys remain highly concerned for their safety.

In addition, the study found that travel hesitancy arises from the fear of pandemic resurgence. Those who travel are afraid to get stranded in their home and work while they're vacationing.

In the Philippines domestic travel is still limited to select destinations and comes with restrictions. Certain areas in the country are under Alert Level 2 until May 31 in which travel is allowed with restrictions.

Travel habits

The top factor Filipinos consider when traveling domestically is their safety, followed by the cost of the whole vacation and travel spots/sceneries. They are least concerned about the promotion of the destination, good cell service, and distance from where they live.

And despite the destination still being within the country, Pinoys still engage with a travel agency for planning their vacation. Opting for a travel agency may ensure a worry-free trip so travelers can spend more time enjoying their post-pandemic vacation.
