Canva creates design templates for community pantries in need of signage

The spirit of bayanihan is alive with the rise of the “community pantry” movement that has inspired many all over the country to set up their own pantries or chip in whatever they can contribute—big or small.

As one would notice, most community pantries often have a signage made of used cardboard or pieces of paper that bear handwritten information about the pantry and, of course, the principle that the initiative was built on: “Magbigay batay sa kakahayan. Kumuha batay sa pangangailangan.”

Online design platform Canva has opened up its platform with design templates for those who are setting up community pantries in need of signage.

Tuloy ang tulungan. Maraming salamat po sa mga sumusuporta at nagtataguyod ng mga community pantries. Saludo po kami sa inyo!” Canva posted on social media.

With this message, the company provided links to two different design sets that one may choose from. Canva may be easy to use, but it also provided a step-by-step instruction that one may use as a reference—from editing the templates to downloading and printing the designs.

For each design set, there are 14 colorful and eye-catching design templates that one may use, complete with signs for different items that one may edit depending on what’s available in the pantry like rice, canned goods, instant noodles and vegetables, even face masks, face shield, and alcohol.

The slides also bear the words that are staples in every community pantry’s signage like “Para sa masa, galing sa masa,” the community pantry principle in Tagalog and English, and the words “Inspired by the Maginhawa Community Pantry.”

There are also templates for reminders like “Mag-social distancing,” “Magsuot ng masks,” and “Mag-disinfect.”

Aside from providing design templates, Canva is also offering those who need help in printing their designs free printing and delivery. One just has to fill out a form that asks for the community pantry’s name and exact address.

The move to open up its platform to this fast-growing movement is not the first time Canva lent a helping hand. Last year, it started the #StopTheSpread campaign that helped healthcare organizations with their design needs for their COVID-19 related materials.

The design company also helps initiatives that are on a mission to create a greater impact. It has an existing Non-profits program that gives free Canva Pro access to eligible organizations.
