The global melting pot of Hong Kong has topped a list of international destinations for Pinoy families who want to enjoy an international vacation together.

Digital travel platform Agoda on March 16 published an early 2023 search data, which shows a "strong preference toward cosmopolitan cities."

After Hong Kong, which placed first, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, and Seoul followed behind.

The rest of the top 10 included perpetual summer destinations like Bangkok (sixth) and Bali (eighth), as well as hop destination cities like Taipei (seventh) and Kuala Lumpur (ninth). The 10th and final spot went to Nagoya, the third listed destination in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Meanwhile, the capital of Manila placed first on the list of top 10 local destinations.

"On the home front, the nation’s capital’s dominance as a preferred domestic travel destination prevailed even post-lockdown. Alongside staycation offerings to city-dwellers and regional neighbors alike, Manila also offers plenty of culture-rich destinations for the whole family, like the vibrant Intramuros and timeless Luneta," Agoda wrote.

Half of the top domestic locations were beach destinations like Boracay (second), Cebu (fourth), Bohol (eighth), Palawan (ninth), and La Union (10th). The rest were road-trip destinations near Manila that serve as quick go-to getaways: Baguio (third), Batangas (fifth), Tagaytay (sixth), and Subic (seventh).

“Families are taking advantage of the school breaks to spend quality time on trips together. Among Filipino travelers, we are seeing great interest to spend time at the beach, or in cities where there are a lot of historical and cultural sites along with sumptuous cuisine,” Agoda regional vice-president for Southeast Asia and Oceania Enric Casals said.

According to Agoda’s Family Travel Trend survey, which polled over 14,000 family travelers from 12 markets globally, the most popular activity on family trips is visiting landmarks, followed by spending time at the beach and enjoying a fun day at an amusement park.
