The main trailer for the live-action manga adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho or Ghost Fighter is here!
Streaming giant Netflix has dropped the main teaser for its upcoming offering, giving anime fans a glimpse of the thrilling visual effects that bring to life the intense battles between humans and demons.
The five-episode series successfully combines mystical aspects with realistic elements to reflect the spirit of the original, best-selling manga.
According to its visual effects director, Tomofumi Akahane, the partnership with Scanline VFX, renowned for its work on significant Hollywood movies, made it all possible.
"With Scanline VFX on board, we were able to reach higher than any other Japanese title and achieve a quality where the average viewer won't be able to tell that CGI is actually CGI," he said.
The trailer begins with Koenma, the son of the Underworld's ruler, narrating how the world of humans and demons got divided into two.
"Long ago, the human world and demon world were connected. Yokai crept into the human world to prey on humans," he said.
After reviving the show's protagonist, Yusuke Urameshi, Koenma gives his first directive to the former as a spirit detective: "I'm sending you back to life. In exchange, you'll be a spirit detective. Surely you won't refuse since we're reviving you."
The scene then cuts to how Yusuke trained to protect the human world.
The teaser also spotlights the other main characters of the series, including Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara, with each of them showing off their unique powers and abilities. Things, however, turn foreboding for the heroes as the Toguro brothers, a pair of highly dangerous demons, are hired to fight against them.
Yu Yu Hakusho follows junior high school student Yusuke, who died in an accident while trying to save a child. He meets a spirit guide named Botan, who tells him he will be given a chance to be revived for performing an act of goodness despite his delinquency.
Takumi Kitamura will take on the role of the protagonist Yusuke, while Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara will be played by actors Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo, and Shuhei Uesugi, respectively.
The cast also includes Kotone Furukawa as Botan, Keita Machida as Koenma, and Go Ayano as Younger Toguro.
Yu Yu Hakusho live-action will premiere on Netflix on Dec. 14. Watch the trailer below.
