It’s been five years since 2NE1’s unexpected disbandment, but the pain remains for CL.

In an interview with AP Entertainment, former 2NE1 member CL revealed that she found out about their disbandment only through the media. The interviewer mentioned that her former bandmate Minzy had long ago admitted that she found out about the girl group’s disbandment through the news.

“I did too, to be honest. I was at a thanksgiving dinner, and my phone blew up. But yeah, those situations… that was very heartbreaking for me,” CL said.

Despite 2NE1’s disbandment, CL said she’s glad to have freedom over what she wants to do. “As I said, now I have a lot of freedom and control over what I choose to do. It's a very exciting chapter for me.”

2NE1, composed of CL, Bom, Dara, and Minzy, debuted under YG Entertainment in 2009. Considered one of the top groups in K-pop’s 2nd Generation, they’re popular for their hit tracks Fire, I Don’t Care, and Come Back Home

2NE1 officially disbanded in November 2016, months after Minzy’s departure from the group.
