New ABBA songs are coming this 2021, confirms member Björn Ulvaeus

Here we go again.

It’s been four long decades and two hit films since Swedish pop band ABBA has released new music, but one of its members, Björn Ulvaeus, says that the tides are bound to change this 2021.

In a new interview with the Herald Sun, Ulvaeus shared that the quartet has been meeting regularly in Stockholm to discuss and produce their new songs.

“There will be new music this year, that is definite, it's not a case anymore of it might happen, it will happen,” the 76-year-old shared.

“We're really, really good friends. The four of us stand in the studio for the first time in 40 years and there's just something in knowing what we've been through... It's hard to describe, but there are such strong, strong bonds between us.”

In a separate interview with The New York Times, Ulvaeus mentioned that the new songs will be dropping during the autumn season, or around September.

"Benny and I have written some new songs, and there will be some new music from Abba released this autumn. But I’m forbidden to say anything more about it."

"All I can say is that it was fantastic in the studio because it was like yesterday. It was so strange coming into that studio and the four of us looking at each other and thinking, 'what is this?' It all came rushing back," he added.

The four-piece band composed of Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog (thus the acronym ABBA) broke it off in 1983 to pursue solo careers. They’ve released numerous chart-topping classics such as Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Dancing Queen, and more.

They’ve been teasing a reunion with five new song releases as early as July of last year, but the project was stalled amid the pandemic.
