New Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer shows off rideable legendary Pokémon
Gotta catch 'em all once again!
The Pokémon Company has released a new trailer for their upcoming role-playing games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, unveiling more information about the vast region you'll explore as well as new creatures and characters you'll meet.
Released during the company's Aug. 3 Pokémon Presents, the nearly three-minute trailer highlighted new terrain and landscapes that players can traverse in the Paldea region, from lakes, sky-scraping peaks, perilous mountain ranges, and vibrant towns.
However, you won't just get to explore these places alone as you'll have none other than the games' mascot legendary Pokémon to accompany you and serve as your ride.
Yes, you read it right. The legendary Pokémon, Koraidon for Scarlet and Miraidon for Violet, can transform into different forms that resemble motorcycles, enabling you to ride them on all kinds of terrain.
"You'll rely on one of them as a partner in your adventure. Climb on, and together, you'll dash across grassy fields, move across water, and glide through the sky. Your partner can change forms as needed while you explore every nook and cranny of the region with them," the presentation explains.
The presentation also reveals your ultimate goal in the game, which comes in the form a treasure hunt.
"You will be enrolling at a certain academy as a student, and a special, independent study project awaits you: the treasure hunt. Through it, you'll embark on a journey to find treasure of your own, here in Paldea," the presentation said.
Player will have three stories to experience, including the familiar gym battling, where you get to challenge eight different gyms to become a champion trainer.
Unlike previous games where the gym challenges are set in order, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet breaks that tradition and lets you have absolute freedom on which gym to take on first. One of the new gym leaders is Grusha, an ice-type specialist who "is usually coolheaded" but gets heated during battles and starts showing his emotions.
Last but definitely not the least, the trailer also introduces new Pokémon that you'll encounter through the course of the game:
Wooper (Paldean Form)
Adopting the regional forms first introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon, the water/ground-type Pokémon Wooper has gotten its own regional design. This Wooper "lives on the land and covers its body with a poisonous film".
Fidough
It seems that Lechonk has a new contender for cutest Pokémon in the form of Fidough, which is a "delightfully squishy Pokémon that are smooth to the touch."
Cetitan
While ice-types are normally fragile, there's nothing fragile about Cetitan, which boasts a "large body and a hard horn that can freeze its surrounding".
As with the trend in previous Pokémon games where they introduce a new gimmick such as Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Dynamaxing, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also has a new feature that you can use in battle: the Terastal phenomenon.
"The Terastal phenomenon makes Pokémon shine like gems. All Pokémon in the Paldea region are able to Terastalize, which can provide a boost to a Pokémon's type and makes its moves stronger. Some Pokémon will change type when they Terastalize. What type they become seems to depend on that Pokémon's Tera Type," the presentation explained.
The Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games are set to be released on November 18.
