‘The Witcher: Monster Slayer’ releases this month

The latest Witcher video game is coming out this month and no, it’s not the long-awaited Witcher 4 or anything like that, CD Projekt is heading for something more “mobile.”

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a new augmented reality (AR) mobile game, similar to Niantic’s Pokémon GO. However, instead of collecting cute pocket monsters that appear in real life through AR, players of Monster Slayer are tasked to defeat gigantic, life-sized monsters in an RPG style combat.

Unlike Pokémon GO, Monster Slayer is expected to have a storyline throughout its gameplay. “Experience story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by the Witcher series, taking you deep into the heart of what it means to be an elite monster slayer,” the game’s description read on its official website.

Besides fighting monsters found in the original line of the Witcher franchise, players will also be able to interact with NPCs and conduct investigations, staying true to its RPG and adventure-driven branding.

Monster Slayer isn’t the only Witcher related project coming out in the months to come. Fans of the franchise can expect much more goodies this upcoming WitcherCon that will take place on July 10 at 1:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Youtube and Netflix.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be available for free on both Android and iOS starting July 21. Android users can pre-register for the game using Google Play, which will automatically then download the game on their phones the moment it launches. In addition, pre-registered Android players are also granted a special bonus weapon that gives extra experience for each monster killed. Sadly, the chances for iOS players acquiring the bonus weapon seems pretty murky, for now.
