Elliot Page has signed on as an executive producer for an upcoming transgender documentary, which is slated to premiere at the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival.

The documentary, titled Nel Mio Nome (Into My Name), is directed by Italian director Nicolò Bassetti. It follows the story of four close friends—Nico, Leo, Andrea, and Raff—who are each going through gender transitions at different times in their lives.

"What stands out to me about Nel Mio Nome is the way it so artfully and intentionally presents all the different pieces that make up a person's identity," Page said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a meditation on trans humanity, and I've never seen another film like it."

Although the director himself is not trans, he said that the transition of his son, Matteo, inspired the film.

"My personal experience as a parent has allowed me, as a director, to find the necessary self-assurance to approach the protagonists of this story, to delve into their emotions, and establish an intimate relationship built on trust and complicity," Bassetti told THR.

"I am truly grateful to Elliot for adding his lived perspective to help our film find its way in the world," he added.

This isn't the Umbrella Academy actor's first documentary. In 2016, he hosted and executive produced Gaycation where he traveled with Ian Daniel to discover the different LGBTQ+ cultures around the world.

Page also recently directed and produced the documentary film There's Something in the Water in 2019.

The 34-year-old actor came out as trans in December 2020 and appeared as the first openly trans man on the cover of Time in March 2021.
