Demi Lovato has debuted a huge spider tattoo, and no, it isn't a reference to the Marvel franchise.
The 28-year-old artist took to Instagram Stories to share the freshly-inked eight-legged piece on the right side of their scalp by Los Angeles-based tattoo artist, Brian Woo.
In another Instagram Story, Lovato shared that the ink is a reference to the Cherokee story Grandmother Spider Brings the Light. Grandmother Spider or the Spider Woman is a deity in many Native American tales.
“It was Grandmother Spider who taught us many things," Demi wrote. "She taught us about pottery and weaving. She taught us about fire and light and dark. She taught us that we are all connected on the web — each one of us having our place in this world.”
Lovato, who came out as non-binary in 2021 and goes by they/them pronouns, also greeted the new year with a buzz cut.
The news comes a few days after Page Six reported that Lovato spent time in a rehab facility. In December of 2021, Lovato shared that they are no longer "California Sober" or using marijuana and alcohol after their 2018 drug overdose.
“I no longer support my California sober ways,” Lovato shared on Instagram Stories. “Sober sober is the only way to be.”
