Disney drops first trailer for 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules'

Calling all Diary of a Wimpy Kid fans! It's time to yell out your best "Zoo Wee Mama!" as Disney has just released the trailer for their animated adaptation of the second book in the series, Rodrick Rules.

The trailer has all of the memorable scenes that fans may recognize from the book, such as the wild party of Greg's older brother Rodrick, Greg being traumatized at the retirement home where his grandfather lives, and his school's big talent show.

The new film serves as a sequel to its 2021 predecessor and once again takes audiences into the disastrous life of middle school student Greg Heffley. This time around, he comes into conflict with his lazy and undisciplined older brother Rodrick, who leads his own rock band Löded Diper and loves to spend his time tormenting Greg with pranks and insults.

Despite their complicated relationship as siblings, the two brothers will always have each other's back when push come to shove.

Following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid film comes as the animation giant decided to reboot the series in the form of a CG-animated film.

Directed by Luke Cormican and written by Jeff Kinney himself, it features the voices of Brady Noon, Ethan William Childress, Edward Asner, Chris Diamantopoulos, Erica Cerra, and Hunter Dillon.

Previously, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books were adapted into a live-action trilogy starring Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Robert Capron, Rachael Harris, Steve Zahn and Peyton List, with storylines from the first book up to the fourth one.

Five years later, the live-action film series returned to adapt the ninth book of the beloved children's novel with a new cast composed of Jason Drucker, Charlie Wright, Alicia Silverstone and Tom Everett Scott.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is set to premiere on Disney+ on Dec. 2.
