Dearest members of the ton, it’s Polin’s time to shine.

Netflix announced Monday, May 16, that the third season of the hit regency romance series Bridgerton will focus on the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, portrayed by Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan respecitvely.

The announcement came in the form of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, as posted in the official social media pages of the show.

“Dearest readers, it is only fair that in this author’s third year chronicling the marriage mart, Mayfair’s social season should find its focus on a third son… as well as a third daughter,” wrote Lady Whistledown.

“This author can confirm that the upcoming season shall follow none other than the budding relationship between Mr. Colin Bridgerton and one Miss Penelope Featherington,” it added.

According to the post: "Miss Penelope Featherington cannot remain a wallflower forever, as all plants thrive best in the sunlight.”

Nicola Coughlan confirmed the news sharing a black and white photo of her and Newton.

"Like Lady Whistledown I’ve been keeping quite a big secret for quite a long time… but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope’s Story," the actress posted on Instagram Monday.

The first season of the series centered on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) as she made her debut in Regency London, seeking a husband, based on Julia Quinn’s novel The Duke and I.

Season 2 focused on Lord Anthony Bridgerton's (Jonathan Bailey’s) enemies-to-lovers story with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) based on the second novel The Viscount Who Loved Me.

While the third Bridgerton novel, An Offer from a Gentleman, focuses on a Cinderella-type fairy tale story with Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophia Beckett.

However, it looks like the next season of the series will be jumping right ahead to the fourth novel, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which focuses on Colin and Penelope’s friends-to-lovers story.

As reported by Netflix's fandom site Tudum, Coughlan acknowledges that fans are most excited for “the racy stuff” from Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

While she cannot confirm or deny which parts from the novel, namely the love scenes, involving the characters of Colin and Penelope will make it to screen, she said: “From what I have heard, I think people are going to be extremely pleased.”

“I have shot sex scenes before, but not in the Bridgerton way. It's really funny because Luke and I have known each other now three years,” Coughlan said.

“In the beginning we used to joke about [the inevitably of one together] all the time.” Now it’s no longer a hypothetical bit of comedy. “I couldn't ask for a better partner to go into this with, and I have such trust in Luke and I hope he has it in me to go forward on it,” Coughlan added.

Newton is equally excited to dive into his and Coughlan’s starring season. “I love Polin,” Newton said. “There’s so much love for that relationship, which brings its pressures because there are people that are really excited about this story to come to the forefront. But also it really warms me.”

Netflix has yet to announce when it will release the third season of Bridgerton.
