Weekend Watchlist: Battle androids, vampires, inner demons and more

We’re officially in the home stretch of 2020. The brand new month of October brings a number of new films and series to our digital channels. Many horror titles have been added in anticipation of the Halloween season, as well as thrilling new science fiction series worth binge-watching.

From award-winning films and video game action flicks to the latest trending K-dramas and local Pinoy romance movies, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s our latest roundup of films and series currently streaming on HBO Go, Netlix, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus that you might want to check out this weekend. 

HBO GO

Raised by Wolves

Synopsis: Raised by Wolves centers upon two androids – Father and Mother – tasked with raising human children on Kepler-22b after the Earth was destroyed by a great war. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task. The 10th and last episode of the the first season drops on October 1, 2020.

The Third Day

Synopsis: A man who is drawn to a mysterious island off the British coast where he encounters a group of islanders set on preserving their traditions at any cost. The British-American drama limited series stars Jude Law and Naomie Harris.

Dream Raider

Synopsis: HBO Asia’s first science fiction series, Dream Raider is about a criminal conspiracy that hacks people’s dreams. The show features a misfit team of scientists and cops trying to hunt down criminals who have developed technology that exploits human consciousness

Joker

Synopsis: Arthur Fleck, a party clown, leads an impoverished life with his ailing mother. However, when society shuns him and brands him as a freak, he decides to embrace the life of crime and chaos. This Best Picture nominated film based on DC Comics characters stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and provides a possible origin story for the character. 

NETFLIX

The Social Dilemma 

Synopsis: This Netflix original documentary-drama hybrid explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations.

Mortal Kombat

Synopsis: Three martial arts warriors journey to a faraway island to engage in battle to save the Earth. Their aim is to make sure that truth triumphs in the fight against evil. This classic 1995 action/adventure flick starring Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou, LInden Ashby and Bridgette Wilson, was based on the epic fighting video game series of the same name. 

Record of Youth

Synopsis: Two actors and a makeup artist fight to make their own way in a world that weighs the backgrounds they were born into more than their dreams.

Write about Love

Synopsis: A pair of screenwriters with clashing ideas must collaborate on a romantic movie. But developing the perfect love story could spark romance off the page.

Vampires vs The Bronx

Synopsis: Three gutsy kids from a rapidly gentrifying Bronx neighborhood stumble upon a sinister plot to suck all the life from their beloved community.

AMAZON PRIME

30 Days of Night

Synopsis: An Alaskan town experiences darkness for a month each year. After the last rays of light fade, a group of vicious vampires attack the town. A couple stands between the vampires and the survivors.

DISNEY PLUS

Zenimation

Synopsis: Unplug, relax, and refresh your senses for a moment of mindfulness with Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zenimation – an animated soundscape experience. Whether it’s baby Moana being called by the ocean, Anna and Kristoff walking through an icy forest, or Baymax and Hiro Hamada flying over San Fransokyo, these iconic scenes become an aural experience like no other with the sounds of ocean waves, an icy forest and soaring flight.
