Look: 'Animal Crossing' gets Halloween update

It's Halloween season on Animal Crossing: New Horizons starting September 30!

A month before this year's spooky turn, Nintendo Switch inserts a free Fall update into the popular game — complete with dropping leaves and acorns, Halloween costumes, character customization, DIY recipes, and even Dreams!

Gamers can soon purchase pumpkins to adorn their home and island in line with the season. They may purchase these in-game from Leif (year-round) or Nook's Cranny (October only). They can grow them and use their harvests for Halloween-themed DIY projects.

Gamers can also purchase Halloween costumes to mark the occasion. They may buy from the Able Sisters shop this October or exchange Nook miles for body paint and colored eye contacts.

All these preparations will only lead gamers to the big night — October 31 after 5 p.m. — with "neighbors" gathering in the Halloween-decorated plaza. Jack, the "czar of Halloween" is expected to visit, awaiting lollipops and candy for in-game rewards.

Gamers may have to stock on candies for their neighbors, lest they get pranked! Although, they can soon learn a couple of new Reactions to properly express feelings of fear.

Next to the Halloween theme, Animal Crossings' latest update also expands the Dreams Suite feature introduced last June — gamers can soon revisit their dream islands easily.

Besides the in-game additions, the NookLink Service in the Nintendo Switch Online app also gets an update in early October.

Gamers can soon to perform Reactions in the game using their smartphone.
