‘Tekken X Street Fighter’ remains on pause, not dead

The much-awaited crossover game Tekken X Street Fighter is currently shelved, clarified Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada, following a mistranslation of his statement earlier this month.

The project was described as “dead” in the translation included in the video on Harada’s YouTube channel uploaded last Saturday, where Harada and Tekken 7 game director Kouhei Ikeda briefly discussed the project. It has then become the basis of some reports.

“For some reason, the meaning of the word "Okura-iri" is "Project died,” but the original meaning of "Okura-iri" is "be shelved" or "put in storage’, Harada wrote in a post linked on Twitter.

The game has completed about 30 percent development and Harada said they are waiting for the “right opportunity.”

He added that they already had motions which can be seen in Akuma. Harada was proud of the model for the female characters and wished they could show it to fans as they turned out “really good.”

“We are still hopeful that TKxSF will resume development when the opportunity arises. However, such a title cannot be moved just for the convenience of one company in terms of marketing and branding, and it also affects each other's development resources,” Harada said.

The project was announced last 2010; since then Bandai Namco, the project developer, had several releases including the hit Tekken 7. In 2012, Capcom released Street Fighter X Tekken, its counterpart in the collaboration.
