Actor and director Seth Rogen has finally revealed the release date for his upcoming CG-animated reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Rogen announced that the much-awaited reboot of the iconic '80s cartoon series is slated to premiere on Aug. 11, 2023. Rogen’s post also came with an image of a piece of paper from Leonardo's science notebook, which featured several doodles and easter eggs, including a sketch of Leo and his katana and the words "discipline," "honor," and "loyalty."

Other references that can also be seen in Leo’s note include the definition and types of mutation and the names of Leo's fellow TMNT members. Additionally, there’s also a question written inside the margin that reads “who am I?" and a reminder to "apologize to April," a reference to the turtles' human ally, April O'Neil.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... Aug 11 2023 (Leo takes notes like I used to)" Rogen's caption read.

First announced last year, the upcoming CG reboot is being developed by Nickelodeon and Point Grey Pictures. The movie will be directed by Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Connected, Disenchantment) and written by Brendan O’Brian (Neighbors, Sorority Rising, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates).

In an interview with Collider last year, Rogen shared his plans for the upcoming reboot and also discussed how his take on the iconic humanoid reptiles will stand out among the previous iterations of the franchise.

"As a lifelong fan of Ninja Turtles, weirdly the 'Teenage' part of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was always the part that stuck out to me the most," Rogen said. "And as someone who loves teenage movies, and who’s made a lot of teenage movies, and who literally got their start in their entire profession by writing a teenage movie, the idea of kind of honing in on that element was really exciting to us. I mean, not disregarding the rest, but really using that as kind of a jumping off point for the film."

The TMNT franchise first started as a comic book series in 1984 which eventually adapted into an animated TV show. It later spawned into a live-action television series and numerous blockbuster movies, including Michael Bay's reboot series in 2014 and 2016.

Apart from Rogen's upcoming project, there’s also a TMNT retro-style beat 'em up game that’s coming to unspecified consoles and PC. Inspired by the iconic 1987 cartoon series, the upcoming four-player co-op brawler is being developed by Streets of Rage 4 publisher Dotemu and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game creator Tribute Games.
