‘Dexter: New Blood’ trailer reveals release date

Serial killer Dexter Morgan is back. Showtime just revealed the first full teaser trailer for Dexter: New Blood, the upcoming 10-episode revival series during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2021 on Sunday. The highly-anticipated show will return on Showtime on November 7 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Emmy winner Michael C. Hall returns as the titular character set a decade after the show's original run in a new story that's been described a “second finale" for Dexter.

Clyde Phillips, who oversaw the original series’ first four seasons, serves as the showrunner of the revival. Philipps has confirmed that former cast members Jennifer Carpneter and John Lithgow will be reprising their deceased characters Deb Morgan and Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer, respectively in the revival, and teased surprises for fans.

"I will say that there will be some returning cast members from the original series that will make some people's brains explode," said the showrunner.

The trailer picks up with Dexter living a new life under a new name: Jim Lindsay. The former blood spatter analyst now has a new job at an outdoor gear store surrounded by plenty of knives and guns, but is doing his best to blend in and live a normal life. But it doesn’t seem like this new life in Oregon has managed to curb Dexter’s Dark Passenger.

Dexter’s original run began on Showtime in 2006 and ended in 2013 after eight seasons. At the end of Dexter’s eighth season, the character moved from his longtime home in Miami to a small cabin in Oregon after faking his own death. While the finale was met with mostly negative reactions, his return a decade later will hopefully bring a more satisfying conclusion to the character’s story.

Dexter: New Blood is set to air 10 episodes on Showtime starting on November 7, 2021.
