Game publisher and toy company Ravensburger will be releasing a board game based on the much-beloved classic The Princess Bride.

Screened in theaters back in 1987, The Princess Bride is a fairytale adventure about Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) and Westley (Cary Elwes), her one true love. The story is told by a grandfather (Peter Falk) to his grandson (Fred Savage) on the boy's sick day. The film was directed by Rob Reiner, from a screenplay by William Goldman which was also based on the latter's book of the same name.

Now, 33 years later, The Princess Bride gets a board game treatment with The Princess Bride Adventure Book Game. The set itself looks to be packed with various gameplay elements which promises to be more than your average board game.

The game is chapter based, with different "pages' representing different parts of the film story as you progress. We say "film" because from the box cover art alone you can see the boy and his grandfather as part of the game. The boy's interruptions from the film will also play a part in the gameplay.

Everything you need for a tale of high adventure!

Made for one to four players, the Princess Bride game allows for one player to go solo but encourages a family pr group of friends to play which is pretty neat if you want to get this set solely for you to enjoy as a collectible. But playing with friends later is best, especially if you are able to throw lines with each other like "Anybody want a peanut?", "Never get involved in a land war in Asia," and "Life is pain, Highness! Anyone who says differently is selling something."

And who could ever forget this one: "Hello. My name is Iñigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Of course, there are no details yet on which quotes will actually make it to the game, but it's a sure bet that these timeless zingers will make the cut.

From the game's official description:

"Inconceivable! Climb the Cliffs of Insanity, brave the Fire Swamp, and help Buttercup, Westley, Fezzik, and Inigo Montoya survive the dastardly machinations of Prince Humperdinck, Count Rugen, and Vizzini. Follow the incredible story of The Princess Bride through six chapters and work together to keep the plot on course despite Shrieking Eels, kissing, and constant interruptions! Will the forces of evil — or true "wove" — prevail?

"In The Princess Bride Adventure Book Game, players work together to advance the plot and tell all six chapters despite interruptions from a sick grandson. Each chapter is represented by a new board within a "book" of game boards. Instead of each player controlling a single character, players cooperate to complete challenges by moving characters and discarding story cards from their hand."

The game even comes with a set of paintable miniature figures of characters from the film. It's extremely cool to see Westley, Buttercup, Prince Humperdinck, Count Rugen, Vizzini, Iñigo Montoya, and Fezzik well represented here.

The Princess Bride Adventure Book Game will be available at Target stores in the US in October, 2020 with a retail price of $25 (P1,219.81).
