'Pacific Rim' anime series gets teaser trailer and release date
Get ready for big robots fighting gigantic monsters on the small screen soon.
Netflix has just released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming animated series Pacific Rim: The Black. The trailer posted on Tuesday (Feb. 2), confirms that the latest chapter of the Pacific Rim franchise will premiere on the streaming service on March 4, 2021.

The sci-fi action series comes from Legendary Entertainment (Kong: Skull Island, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu), and is being developed by co-showrunners Craig Kyle (Thor: Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (X-Men: Evolution).
The kaiju-fighting mech series will expand the world that was built for the live-action films which debuted in 2013. The American military science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo del Toro, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi and more is regarded as an homage to kaiju, mecha, and anime media. The sequel Pacific Rim Uprising from Steven S. DeKnight followed in 2018.
The animated series, which was first announced in 2018, will follow two siblings, an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister, who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to search for their missing parents.
Here’s an official synopsis that offers more clues:
"There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving."
