New ‘Uncharted’ movie images tease Nathan Drake’s mysterious adventure

Fans waiting to hear updates on the upcoming big screen adaptation of the video game franchise Uncharted got a New Year treat with a glimpse of fresh movie stills.
The Uncharted movie Twitter account posted four images taken from the set on Saturday (Jan. 2) which provide clues to the adventure and secrets that Tom Holland's version of Nathan Drake will uncover in the highly anticipated film.

Instead of tackling any of the stories from the video game series, the film is set to serve as a prequel with a younger version of adventurer and treasure hunter Nathan Drake, played by Marvel’s Spider-Man star Holland.
While the story for the Uncharted movie from director Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Zombieland) is still under tight wraps, the images manage to give us a glimpse of some artifacts that Drake will encounter in his big film adventure. The images don’t give much of the story away but manage to stay true to the spirit of game developer Naughty Dog's favorite treasure hunting adventure game.
One photo depicts a jeweled golden cross on top of an old world map, which is used as a mysterious key for a chest in the next image. The third image shows an ancient cobweb-covered statue of a man carrying a shield on a horse and holding up an empty hand which seems like it’s missing a weapon. In the background of the statue is what looks like a wooden structure that could be an elevator/crate or cage. The final image shows another old map with orienting lines focused on the continent of Africa in the center.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any new images of Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, though that may be his hand turning the key in the image above. We’re also still waiting to get a first look at Mark Wahlberg as Drake’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan and supporting cast members Sophia Ali (Grey’s Anatomy), who plays fellow treasure hunter Chloe Frazer, as well as Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro), and Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) in undisclosed roles.
The Uncharted film is slated to be theatrically released in the United States on July 16, 2021. With the release of more images, we might not have to wait too long before Sony releases a teaser video or an official trailer.
