'I am an artist, not a variant:' US Rapper Omarion goes viral for New Year's message

US Rapper Omarion wants to make it clear: Despite their similar-sounding names, he's not the highly-transmissible COVID-19 variant.

In a satirical statement shared on his social media, the singer poked fun at the similarities by saying that he's an artist, not a variant.

“So please be aware that if you just so happen to run into me on the street, you don’t have to isolate for 5 days nor do you need to have a negative test result in order to dance to my music," he added.

The Post To Be rapper continued his viral streak with two more videos carrying a similar message. His videos have since garnered over 1 million views on TikTok.

"So please be safe, be healthy. Happy New Year."

This wouldn't be the first time that the Omicron joke has tickled his funny bones, as he shared a meme on Instagram on Dec. 25 poking fun of the similarity.

"I can’t stand y’all," the rapper captioned with a screenshot of the viral meme.

The Omarion/Omicron jokes spread on social media shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the COVID-19 Omicron variant as a "variant of concern."
