Tencent is looking for a Pokémon Consultant with 900+ hours of playtime

If you’re a huge Pokémon fan who’s looking for a gig in the franchise, then here’s some news that might interest you: Tencent has recently put up 19 Pokémon related job listings on its website, including a Pokémon consultant position.

In order to qualify for the job, however, Tencent has laid out a number of requirements that applicants need to meet to prove that they're fit for the position.

As video game analyst Daniel Ahmad pointed out, those who are interested should have cleared all Pokémon games with more than 900 hours of playtime, watched more than 500 episodes of the anime, have Master Ball ranking in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and also know the history of Pokémon.

Among the requirements, proving that you’ve cleared all of the games in the franchise is kind of tricky as applicants may need to provide proof that they finished older generation games like Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal on the game console itself and not by using an emulator. This means that applicants need to whip out their old consoles and cartridges to make sure that their save files are still working.

Ahmad said that the Chinese company is hiring for Pokemon related jobs due to its partnership with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo. Tencent previously announced that its TiMi Studios is working on a new project called Pokémon UNITE, a strategic team battle game that allows players to face off against each other in 5-on-5 team battles.

In the game, players will have to cooperate with their teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, as well as defeat opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.

The upcoming free-to-play, multiplayer online battle arena is slated to come out on smartphones and Nintendo Switch.
