Here’s where you can read a free preview of ‘Trese’

Can’t wait to watch the anime adaptation of Trese to drop on Netflix?

In case you want to familiarize yourself with the original source material, Penlab.Ink is offering the first chapter of the pilot comic of Trese, written by Budjette Tan and illustrated by KaJo Baldisimo, free of charge on their platform. 

The digital space hosts Pinoy creators and the comics that they make, from new series by up-and-coming artists to seasoned illustrators and writers sharing beloved graphic novels. 

The first part of the pilot comic titled “At the Intersection of Balete Drive and 13th Street” features detective Alexandra Trese hunting down cases of supernatural origin in Manila's dark underbelly.

The comic’s official synopsis reads:

“When the sun sets in the city of Manila, don’t you dare make a wrong turn and end up in that dimly-lit side of the metro, where blood-sucking answang run the most-wanted kidnapping rings, where gigantic kapre are the kingpins of crime, and magical engkantos slip through the cracks and steal your most precious possessions. When crime takes a turn for the weird, the police call Alexandra Trese.”

The complete 136-page paperback "Murder on Balete Drive" published in the USA by Ablaze Publishing in December 2020 features all new, redrawn artwork throughout, and includes a substantial bonus section with behind-the-scenes sketches, info and details on the making of the book and further insight into the world of Trese, as told by its creators.
