The first season of Fortnite Chapter 3 has arrived with a brand new island, and exciting new characters, including Spider-Man and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson added to the game.

Besides The Rock and Spidey, new characters Marcus Fenix and Kait Diaz from Gears of War have been brought in to the next chapter of Fortnite.

Developed by Epic Games and released in 2017, Fortnite is a massive online multiplayer game in which players participate in battle royale events.

Johnson was revealed as The Foundation, who made his first appearance at the end of chapter 2’s sixth season.

The heavily armoured character is depicted as a leader of an organisation known as The Seven, which is dedicated to protecting the Fortnite world from being abused by the Imagined Order (IO).

Besides sharing the character's likeness in the game, The Rock also voiced the character. The Foundation is shown in a one-time-only “The End” event, in which he saves the life of Jonesy from Dr. Sloan before flipping the island of chapter 2 onto the head of the Cube Queen.

Fortnite Chapter 3 announced Sunday (Dec. 5) is giving players a whole new island to explore and fight their battles with friends online. Dubbed Flipped, the island from Chapter 2 has been turned upside down, with brand new locations, making it a good starting point for new players and a reason for old players to return to the game.

Spider-Man is a new playable character with the chapter 3 season 1 battle pass.

Chapter 3 introduces a lot of new actions including gliding, and a new swinging mechanic allowing players to use Spidey’s web-shooters, starting Dec. 11. The new action can be done in any outfit, but will no doubt look cooler in the iconic web-slinger costume.

Besides the classic original, the Spidey costumes also includes a black symbiote suit and a white Future Foundation outfit. A new location called Daily Bugle, catering especially to Spidey fans resembles something like the New York City in the Marvel comics.

Players will also be able to camp with their squad in order to heal up and stash items in tents to collect for future matches.

The island in Fortnite Chapter 3 primarily has three landscapes, a snow-covered tundra, desert and green pasture. It also has new weather effects, including tornadoes, that can affect both players and the environment.
