Actor Tom Welling recently provided updates on the upcoming animated series revival of the beloved Superman prequel show, Smallville.

Speaking at Fan Expo Vancouver with co-star Erica Durance, Welling, who portrayed the role of Clark Kent, revealed details about the progress of the show including potential cast members.

“We’re working on an animated series that picks up right after our Smallville and again telling our own story and our vision is that we get Erica… It might be tough to get Allison but well, you know, Kristen... but like even Sam Jones and Lionel Luthor is going to be a big part of it and John Glover wants to do it, we’ve already been into this,” he said.

Allison Mack, who portrayed the role of Clark's best friend Chloe Sullivan, will unlikely reprise her role in the upcoming project as she is currently serving prison time over her role in the NXIVM cult.

Welling added: “We’ve already got animation, we just don’t have the stories yet because Al and Miles are like busy making like Tim Burton movies and stuff. As soon as they are done with that, we’re going to do this. I want to be Clark’s voice, I want Erica to be Lois’ [voice], that’s going to be the fun of it. I think there’s a story that Al and Miles are going to tell that’s individual and new and call it a Multiverse thing. But let’s see where it goes, and it’ll be fun so yeah."

Last year, Welling revealed that he's currently working with co-star Michael Rosenbaum to bring their beloved show back into the small screen.

In a Cameo video posted on Instagram, the 44-year-old actor said that he's developing an animated version of The CW's Smallville which would feature the iconic superhero series' original cast members.

"Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible. Don't tell anybody, though. It's a secret. We're still working on it," Welling said.

The series, which ran for a total of 217 episodes over 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011, starred Welling as a young Clark Kent opposite Rosenbaum, who portrayed the role of Superman's foe Lex Luthor. Other cast includes Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang), Mack (Chloe Sullivan), Durance (Lois Lane), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent), John Schneider (Jonathan Kent), John Glover (Lionel Luthor), Justin Hartley (Green Arrow), Laura Vandervoort (Kara Zor-El), and Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen).

Although details of the show remain under wraps, some fans are speculating that the upcoming series might feature the story of the Smallville Season 11 graphic novel, which takes place six months after the events of the show's final episode and features fan-favorite characters such as Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane.

After his stint as a young Kal-El ended several years ago, Welling later reprised his role as Clark Kent during The CW's Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event in 2019. Previously, Welling also welcomed the idea of reviving his character to play alongside Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight in Matt Reeves' The Batman.
