EA confirms ‘Dead Space’ remake in development

Get ready to cut limbs as EA officially announced the remake of their hit sci-fi horror nightmare fuel Dead Space, during the recently concluded EA Play Live 2021 online event.

"The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios to offer a deeper and more immersive experience. Harnessing the power of the Frostbite game engine and next generation consoles, this remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity and improvements to gameplay while staying true to the original."

The original game was developed by Visceral Games and was released in 2008, followed by two sequels in 2011, and 2013. It has garnered multiple awards and nominations due to its bone-chilling audio and gameplay.

The studio was shut down by EA in 2017 while they were working on a Star Wars project and crushed hopes of getting a remake or another entry in the series.

The complete overhaul of the game will be spearheaded by EA Motive, the studio responsible for Star Wars Squadrons and the single player campaign of Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

In an interview with IGN, EA Chief Studios Officer Laura Miele shared how they pushed through with the project, citing EA Motive VP and General Manager Patrick Klaus’s desire to produce a remake.

“It was Motive and specifically Patrick Klaus’s passion for Dead Space. He actually began pitching us the idea on a trip to our headquarters a couple of years ago,” Miele said.

“The studio had other short term priorities but it was always something we wanted to make happen. Motive did a fantastic job with Star Wars: Squadrons last year- and their general expertise in the action genre made it the right studio for this project,” she added.

The Dead Space remake will be exclusively on next-gen platforms such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as it uses EA’s Frostbite engine.

As of this writing, there is still no confirmed release window on the project.
