‘The Matrix Resurrections,’ ‘Peacemaker’ and other new shows to watch this weekend

The Matrix Resurrections, the long-awaited fourth chapter in the groundbreaking franchise, is finally hitting theaters in the Philippines this week. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous.

On HBO GO, we have The Suicide Squad spin-off series Peacemaker starring John Cena and written by James Gunn, where fans can expect the same energy, style and irreverent sense of humor as the film.

For horror fans who missed the movie in cinemas late last year, James Wan’s Malignant is now streaming on HBO GO.

Over on Netflix, a new supernatural mystery series Archive 81 and the unsettling stop-motion anthology The House drops this week. 

Here are some of the latest movies and series streaming from Jan. 10 to 16, 2022.


The Matrix Resurrections

Synopsis: To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, Mr. Anderson, aka Neo, will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. If he's learned anything, it's that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of—or into—the Matrix. Neo already knows what he has to do, but what he doesn't yet know is that the Matrix is stronger, more secure and far more dangerous than ever before.



Synopsis: Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.


Synopsis: The origin and missions of superhero Peacemaker who’s so dedicated to world peace that he is prepared to fight, kill, use weapons and even start a war to achieve it.

Euphoria (Season 2)

Synopsis: A group of high-school students navigate a mine field of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship in today's increasingly unstable world.

The Righteous Gemstones

Synopsis: The Righteous Gemstones depicts a family of televangelists and megachurch pastors led by widowed patriarch Eli Gemstone (John Goodman). Eli and his immature children, Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson) and Kelvin (Adam DeVine), lead opulent lives funded by church donations.


Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

Synopsis: The 4th installment of the franchise, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania dives into the relationship between Dracula and his goofy, human son-in-law Johnny. As Dracula plans to retire and gift his beloved Hotel Transylvania to his daughter Mavis, he changes his mind at the last minute -worried that Johnny will ruin what he has built.


Attack on Titan

Synopsis: With his hometown in ruins, young Eren Yeager becomes determined to fight back against the giant Titans that threaten to destroy the human race.

Archive 81

Synopsis: An archivist takes a job restoring damaged videotapes and gets pulled into the vortex of a mystery involving the missing director and a demonic cult.

The House

Synopsis: Across different eras, a poor family, an anxious developer and a fed-up landlady become tied to the same mysterious house in this animated dark comedy.

The Journalist

Synopsis: A dedicated journalist doggedly pursues the truth about a government corruption scandal even as powerful enemies seek to neutralize her reporting.


Synopsis: Mystery writer Grace Miller has killer instincts when it comes to motive—and she'll need every bit of expertise to help solve her sister's murder.


Synopsis: Bullets fly and blood splatters at a small-town police station when a rookie cop unwittingly locks a contract killer in the cell opposite his target.

After Life: Season 3

Synopsis: Struggling to come to terms with his wife's death, a writer for a newspaper adopts a gruff new persona in an effort to push away those trying to help.
