Apple TV Plus has released a trailer for its upcoming series, Foundation, an adaptation of Isaac Asimov's acclaimed science fiction novels.

Asimov’s stories were first published in the 1940s as short stories and later turned into a trilogy. The author returned to the world in 1981, adding both sequels and prequels.

Now, the Hugo-Award winning saga is getting a new life as an original series from Apple TV coming next month.

The first season of Foundation premieres on September 24 with its first two of 10 episodes. New episodes will drop weekly on Fridays up to November 19.

Foundation chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.

The story follows Hari Seldon, a math professor who develops a branch of mathematics called psychohistory. Using this method, he predicts that the mighty sci-fi civilization in which he lives is slipping toward a fall. But as math got them into this mess, so it can get them out; by following his guidance, perhaps civilization can be saved, or the effects of the fall at least minimized.

The lead role of Hari Seldon will be played by Chernobyl’s Jared Harris. The series cast also includes The Hobbit veteran Lee Pace, who will play Brother Day, the Emperor of the Galaxy, Lou Llobell (Gaal Dornick), Leah Harvey (Salvor Hardin), Laura Birn (Eto Demerzel), Cassian Bilton (Brother Dawn), Terrence Mann (Brother Dusk) and Alfred Enoch (Raych Seldon).

Robyn Asimov, Josh Friedman, Cameron Welsh, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bill Bost and David S. Goyer, who also serves as showrunner, executive produces the series, which is produced by Skydance Television.
