Sorry iPad users, Instagram won't be making a dedicated IG app for the Apple gadget anytime soon

As iPad users may know, there isn't a dedicated Instagram app for their Apple tablets. According to IG boss Adam Mosseri, there won't be one anytime soon.

On Feb. 28, tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee tweeted about the lack of the dedicated app. "The year is 2022 and there's still no proper Instagram app for iPad," he wrote.

The first iPad was launched in 2010 and there have been nine generations of the portable tablet since then. According to 9to5Mac, Apple likely shipped over 51 million iPads in 2021 and they predict that a "high percentage" of these users have an Instagram account.

"Yup, we get this a lot," Mosseri answered on Twitter. "It's still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now, we're very heads down on other things."

The social site executive further added that Instagram currently has platforms for Android, iOS, web, as well as a Lite version of the app, with Android having the most users.

Mosseri also said that the company has been working on "finally features" that users have been clamoring for like dark mode, scheduled posts, and deleting one photo from a carousel.

To use the photo-sharing app on the iPad, users have to download Instagram for the iPhone from the App Store. Since it's built for a smartphone's screen ratio, the app isn't in fullscreen when on the iPad—there are notably big black bars on the sides of the display.

Other photo and video sharing sites like TikTok and YouTube have dedicated apps for the iPad, on top of having an iPhone alternative.
