By Kara Santos Published Oct 04, 2021 4:45 pm

Square Enix’s Tokyo Game Show presentation kicked off with the announcement that there would be new updates regarding Final Fantasy XVI.

The show hosted by veteran voice actor Hiroki Yasumoto went on to unveil plenty of other trailers, including a new RPG coming in two weeks time.

Here’s a roundup of some of the major highlights during Square Enix's presentation on Friday, Oct. 1.

‘Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin’ gets release date

A new demo has arrived for the Final Fantasy spin-off game being developed by Team Ninja. The demo of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin builds off feedback from the trial released earlier this year and will feature both a new stage and give players a chance to try out the game’s multiplayer elements.

Square Enix unveiled an action-packed new trailer and announced the release date of March 18, 2022.

New RPG ‘Dungeon Encounters’ announced

A brand-new dungeon exploration RPG called Dungeon Encounters from the design team behind Final Fantasy VI, IX and XII, is set to arrive mid-October. The unique dungeon exploration RPG has characters walking on a crossword puzzle like grid, to lead an expedition to chart the depths of an otherworldly labyrinth. Plan and prepare to overcome numerous obstacles, solve puzzles, and defeat monsters.

Dungeon Encounters will be released on Oct. 14, 2021.

New story trailer for ‘Triangle Strategy’

Square Enix’s upcoming HD-2D tactical RPG Triangle Strategy got a new story trailer that showed off more of the game's characters and backstory. Each character was introduced with a brief gameplay scene in the same vein of Final Fantasy Tactics, followed by a description of the game's backstory and its warring factions.

Triangle Strategy is set to be released on March 4, 2022.

‘Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier’ gets November release date

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, the upcoming battle royale game for mobile devices from Square Enix, will be released in November with pre-registration set to start later this month.

The game’s background will be familiar to those who have played Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VII: Remake. The game is set in a VR sim used by Shinra to train SOLDIER candidates and many of the locations mirror those found in Final Fantasy VII: Remake. In The First Soldier, players take on the role of warrior, sorcerer, monk, ranger or ninja to battle their way towards victory.

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is set to release in 2021.

‘Chocobo Racing’ sequel moves to Switch

Chocobo racing gets a Mario Kart makeover in the cutesy racing game, Chocobo GP, headed for the Nintendo Switch in 2022. The follow-up to the 1999 PlayStation classic Chocobo Racing was first revealed during Nintendo's Direct presentation last week, with new gameplay footage surfacing online during the Tokyo Game Show 2021 previews.

Chocobo GP is on track to launch for Nintendo Switch in 2022. No other platforms have been announced.

Square Enix also delved deeper in specific livestreams to talk about their upcoming open-world action game, Forspoken, the card-based RPG Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, among other titles.
