Cinema '76 Film Society's iconic San Juan branch has announced that it will close its doors on Sept. 15, 2021.

Established in 2016, the San Juan branch of the micro-cinema serves as their first physical cinema following a Quezon City location. It's since welcomed cinephiles from all walks of life and showcased a number of local and foreign films—from arthouse and mainstream, to Hollywood and independent projects.

The indies haven took to social media to share the news, assuring their fans with the caption: "Bawal umiyak, bes" (Don't cry, bes).

“Our hearts may be heavy, but we know that this is not goodbye. We believe in the resilience of Creatives in the industry. We believe in the passion of Filipino movie fans. Magkakasama-sama run tayo unit sa loob ng sinehan," Cinema '76 shared on Facebook.

“Once the world is ready, Cinema ’76 Film Society will continue to serve movie fans looking for a home in our Anonas QC Branch.”

The post has since reached 300 reactions and 3,000 shares as of writing, with many fans thanking the micro-cinema for the memories it's provided had pre-pandemic.

The film scene is one of the many creative industries heavily hit by the pandemic. “2020 has been the most difficult year for everyone in the film and entertainment industry. With cinemas closed indefinitely and filming limited due to restrictions, it really became a challenge for us to stay afloat during this pandemic," shared Daphne O. Chiu of TBA Studios, the film company behind Cinema '76.

Meanwhile, Cinema '76 has been showcasing virtual film showings via their official website here.
