'Heroes don't do that': 'Harley Quinn' co-creator reveals DC axed Batman and Catwoman intimate scene in Season 3

DC reportedly ordered the creators of Harley Quinn to remove an intimate scene between Batman and Catwoman from the animated series' upcoming third season.

In a recent interview with Variety, co-creator and executive producer Justin Halpern shared that the company wanted the team to delete a scene from the series, which showed Batman performing oral sex on Catwoman.

“It’s incredibly gratifying and free to be using characters that are considered villains because you just have so much more leeway,” Halpern said. “A perfect example of that is in this third season of ‘Harley’ [when] we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman.”

Halpern explained that DC wanted the scene to be removed from the show’s upcoming third season because apparently “heroes don’t do that.”

“And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that,’" Halpen continued. “They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’”

Despite this, Halpern and co-creator Patrick Schumacker clarified that DC has been “remarkably supportive of their series and has allowed them to push the envelope numerous times.”

However, it remains unclear how the animated series will push through with the controversial scene between the Caped Crusader and Catwoman.

First premiered in 2019, Harley Quinn is an adult animated series which follows the story of the DC anti-heroine and her misadventures following her breakup with the Joker.

The voice cast of the show includes The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Jason Alexander, Wanda Sykes, Giancarlo Esposito, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Diedrich Bader, Tony Hale, Chris Meloni.

HBO has yet to announce the release date for the upcoming third season of Harley Quinn.
