Joseph Gordon-Levitt calls for another collab with Pinoys

500 Days of Summer and Inception actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt once again called for contributions for his online collaborative platform HitRecord that will bring to the fore Filipino creativity and the beauty of the Philippines.

On Sept. 23, Gordon-Levitt posted on Facebook a call for photo submissions of beaches in the Philippines for a new short film project. His post carried a photo of Gigantes Island in Iloilo credited to @SPiNTECH.

After 24 hours of posting the announcement, more than 1,000 photos were submitted on the site — and still counting — including photos of beaches in Boracay, Calaguas, Klanggaman Island, Cebu, Siargao, Romblon and Batangas.

Following his call for submissions of Philippine beach photos, Gordon-Levitt posted the next step for the “Beaches of the Philippines” project where he asked writers to finish the sentence “The beaches of the Philippines remind me of _______.” The contributions will be remixed into a story for the final script of the video.

Included in his post is a photo of Salud Beach in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte credited to @HDean.

This is not the first time the actor-director sought HitRecord contributions from Filipinos. Just in August, he also sought writing contributions that would tell a story about a photo of a fishing boat near the shore during sunset in Donsol. It received more than 1,000 contributions.

And a few days later, he posted an announcement again, this time looking for photos that prospective collaborators have taken somewhere in the Philippines. It received more than 5,000 contributions, and was also re-posted by the Department of Tourism Facebook page

In mid-September, Gordon-Levitt shared the short film The Beauty of the Philippines, which has created using the contributed materials on HitRecord.

“The finished piece is such a sweet celebration of a beautiful place and culture. Bravo to everyone who contributed! Hope you all enjoy as much as I did. Looking forward to seeing what we’ll create together next.” And a new project has already started brewing.

HitRecord, an online creative collaboration platform founded by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his brother Daniel in 2005, aims to bring collaborators together in an organized and productive way. It currently has 80,000 users worldwide.

The platform has published books, put out records, made TV commercials that were played in the World Series and made content for video games. It also produced Emmy Award-winning shows, most recently Create Together in 2020, and HitRecord on TV in 2014.

In a video on the HitRecord website, Gordon-Levitt said that when a project becomes a hit, the contributors who made it on the final production get paid. Over the years, HitRecord has reportedly paid three million dollars to contributors around the world.
