Head's up, gamers! Horror game season is fast approaching.

Halloween is just around the corner which means it's a great time to give yourself a scare with scary movies and video games.

Here are just a few newly released and upcoming horror games to look forward to in the last quarter of 2022 and beyond.

Scorn

Scorn, a new first-person biopunk survival horror adventure video game is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC on October 21 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day 1.

From developer Ebb Software, the game’s visuals were inspired by the works of artists H. R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński. The player must explore the enormous, linked space and pay attention to environmental storytelling to learn about the world. The player will earn various goods, weapons, and talents that will allow them to unlock new regions and explore the non-linear environment. Each of these regions will have its tale to tell, requiring players to pay attention to every detail and explore for hours.

Little Nightmares

Don't own a PC or gaming console? Horror platformer Little Nightmares is getting a mobile release. Game creator Tarsier Studios recently announced that Little Nightmares is preparing for its mobile debut between late 2022 to early 2023.

Little Nightmares follows the journey of Six, a hungry little girl in a yellow raincoat who wakes up in the depths of Maw, a desolate underwater resort governed by monsters with deformed and horrific faces. The puzzle-platform horror adventure game was originally released for consoles last February 2021. The game will now be available for both Android and iOS users.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Even if you're not a fan or just a casual gamer, chances are you're famliar with Resident Evil based on the title alone, given its multiple game titles and movie adaptions.

Resident Evil 4, launched in 2005 by Capcom, is set to release its remake by March 24, 2023 for the PS4. While the original version of this survival-horror classic is still widely available on most platforms, the developer believes that the new iteration will recreate and reconstruct the iconic moments loved by original fans for younger gamers.

Dead Space Remake

Another remake set to debut on January 27, 2023 is science fiction horror video game Dead Space, which was first published in 2008. EA Motive announced that the remake would be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Given the technological advances between 2008 and 2023, the Dead Space Remake now looks more realistic than ever while still staying true to its eerie and horrific signature style. The game is still set to follow the third-person shooter formula in spaceship Ishimura, but there will be a nunmber of improvements to the gameplay.

The Outlast Trials

Developed and published by Red Barrels, the upcoming first-person psychological horror survival video game, The Outlast Trials is making headlines in the gaming community. Being the predecessor of the first two series, the third installment is set in a dystopian world where the game depicts test participants in a mystery Cold War experiment.

While the final schedule for its release has not been confirmed, it is slated to come out by this year on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. For now, fans can enjoy the closed beta game that starts on October 28 and ends on November 1 of this year.

Here, the game offers a first-person perspective of a pathologist performing a human dissection when something strange begins to happen. The game developers actually collaborated with forensic doctors in hopes that the sim game could also be educational as it features anatomically correct bodies. Autopsy Simulator is set to be released sometime in November of 2022 on PC via Steam.
