Percy Jackson begins ‘diverse, inclusive’ casting call for Disney+ reboot

The long-awaited Percy Jackson and the Olympians reboot is finally making some progress, as they’ve officially announced a casting call for the titular character.

With the Disney+ series still in its early stages, author Rick Riordan affirms that the show will stay true to the age of the characters in the book.

“We are looking for an actor who can ‘play 12’,” Riordan shared through his personal blog, as the series aims to make 5 seasons based on the 5-book series.

“That allows for a range in the actual age of the actor, but the goal is to stay true to the original story and have Percy’s character age from 12 to 16 over the course of the TV series, assuming of course we are lucky enough to make all five seasons. That will depend on viewership on Disney+, which is where all of you can help!”

Riordan ensures that they’re not looking for a specific ethnicity to play Percy, as the show is “committed to diverse, inclusive casting.” The titular role was initially portrayed by Logan Lerman in 2010 and 2013.

"We are looking for the best person who can embody the character we all know and love from the books," Riordan added.
