A Legally Blonde spinoff series is coming soon with Reese Witherspoon—who starred as Elle Woods in the hit 2001 film—as its co-producer.

According to a report by Deadline, Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter, through their media company Hello Sunshine, will be producing the upcoming offering alongside Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The latter are set to write the series' pilot episode, according to E! News.

Also included in the production are Marc Platt and Amazon MGM Studios. More details, including the plot and cast, are yet to be unveiled.

This comes a year after Amazon confirmed that Legally Blonde is among the projects in development following the former’s acquisition of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios, which was finalized in 2022. Over the years, there has been “on and off” talk about the production. A third installment was reported to be officially in the works in 2018, with Reese Witherspoon reprising her role as Elle Woods.

The iconic cast reunited virtually for a cause in 2020, during the early days of the pandemic. They looked back on the golden days of the film and how they didn’t realize how iconic it was, inspiring young women to strive for more—just like Woods.

Legally Blonde follows the story of the ever-fabulous and brilliant lawyer, Elle Woods. She initially wanted to become Mrs. Warner Huntington III and win his ex-boyfriend back, so she followed him to Harvard to pursue law. "While she is there, she figures out that there is more to her than just looks," according to IMDb.
