Mankind may be the dominant force on Earth, but when it comes to social media, it seems that our cute and adorable furbabies are the ones that emerge on top.
You'd see this on the animal and pet-related videos on Facebook and Instagram which, according to parent company Meta, has gotten the most engagement on the apps in 2022.
According to the technology company, the past year saw Filipinos getting absolutely enamored with seeing content related to animals and pets across both Instagram and Facebook, making it the highest-engaged Reels topic in 2022.
The videos show a variety of charming moments from our furry companions, ranging from inspiring stories of animals getting rescued, or just their everyday lifestyles that still seem to tug at our heartstrings.
Filipinos also enjoyed watching videos about fashion and heartwarming family and parenting moments as the two topics also emerged as among the top five Reels that Filipinos engaged with on both Facebook and Instagram. Others include content about food and cooking, travel experiences, hilarious skits, and sports.
Meanwhile, when it comes to content creators, former Pinoy Big Brother: Kumunity Season 10 housemate Andreii King achieved the most number of plays from the first to the third quarter of 2022, particularly with his "Instagram vs. Reality" video wherein he showed the difficulties of taking IG-worthy travel photos.
This was followed by Maricar Reyes-Poon's Cruella de Vil transformation using a filter, Korean creator Dasuri Choi’s quick glam change, and fashion blogger Kryz Uy’s sweet moment with her husband Slater Young that made a lot of Filipinos jealous of their loving relationship.
Reels had been made available on Instagram and Facebook in the Philippines in late 2021 and early 2022 respectively, allowing users to shoot, edit, and share their own long-form video content on the platforms.
In a press release, Meta Philippine Country Director John Rubio said that the feature enables users to create entertaining content while showcasing the unique culture of Pinoys.
"We have seen just how much Reels content reflect authentic Pinoy culture as a whole—from our soft spot for animals, to our penchant for finding humor in everyday life, how we value family, and how we express our shared love for food. We look forward to seeing Filipino Creators expand their repertoire, grow their following, and explore fun new ways to engage people through short-form content in 2023," Rubio said.
