WATCH: Netflix drops first look at ‘Don’t Look Up’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence

The official Twitter account of Netflix has released the first trailer of Oscar-winning director Adam McKay’s film Don’t Look Up, featuring a star-studded ensemble.

“Experience the be all, end all movie event of the year starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Meryl Streep,” the tweet read.

The cast includes Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, and Scott Mescudi.

The film follows the story of astronomy graduate school student Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) as they discover an approaching comet that will destroy the Earth. The two embark on a media tour—from visiting the office of President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her son and the Chief of Staff Jason (Jonah Hill) to being featured on The Daily Rip, a morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry) – to warn people about their discovery and to get the world to look up.

In August, Collider reported that McKay (The Big Short, Anchorman, The Other Guys) said that the film was supposed to be an allegory for climate change, but the pandemic changed the film’s thematic focus.

He said, “We can’t even talk to each other anymore. We can’t even agree. So it’s about climate change, but at its root it’s about what has the internet, what have cellphones, what has the modern world done to the way we communicate.”

Don’t Look Up hits theaters on Dec. 10 and streams on Netflix on Dec. 24.
