LIST: Four children's horror shows to binge-watch this Halloween

By Jim Bea Sampaga Published Oct 31, 2021 9:32 pm

For children, Halloween is a time to dress up as their favorite characters to go trick-or-treating on the spookiest day of the year.

But with the pandemic keeping us indoors, receiving and handing out candies to trick-or-treaters might not be a good option this year (again!).

Don’t worry, kids! We got you covered and entertained. This Halloween, spend the spookiest night of the year binge-watching these four kid-friendly horror shows on Netflix.

The Witches (1990)

The Witches is based on the 1983 book of the same name where a boy and his grandmother stay in the same hotel where a children-hating witch convention is being held.

Played by The Addams Family-star Anjelica Huston, the Grand High Witch is on a mission to turn all children into rats, while Luke (Jasen Fisher) teams up with his grandmother (Mai Zetterling) to stop the convention.

Creeped Out (2017)

If Black Mirror is for adults, Creeped Out is definitely for the kids.

This anthology series features creepy and thrilling twists on the typical childhood experience: from spending hours on video games, joining the popular kids at school to discovering the wonders of mobile apps. The show also has a masked character called “The Curious,” a collector of creepy wicked tales.

A Babysitter’s Guide To Monster Hunting (2020)

For a more fantasy take on Halloween, A Babysitter’s Guide To Monster Hunting is about babysitter Kelly (Tamara Smart) saving the child she’s babysitting from the Boogeyman.

As she tries to find the child, Kelly learns about a secret society of babysitters who fights monsters to save and protect children from Harry Potter-star Tom Felton’s Grand Guignol the Boogeyman.

Nightbooks (2021)

Nightbooks is a fantasy-horror film based on the children’s book of the same name. It follows young horror-literature writer Alex (Winslow Fegley) as he gets trapped in a wicked witch’s (played by Krysten Ritter) magical apartment.

Every night, he writes and reads his scary stories for the wicked witch in order to stay alive. He befriends fellow imprisoned-kid Yasmin (Lidya Jewett) and they both hatch a plan to escape the magical apartment.
