‘Alice in Borderland’ renewed for season two

Netflix original series Alice in Borderland, the live-action adaptation of the popular Japanese science fiction manga thriller of the same name by author Hara Aso, has been renewed for a second season. 

Just two weeks after it dropped worldwide, Netflix announced the swift renewal of the series from the streamer’s various social media accounts, including Netflix Philippines. On Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), the streamer shared a short teaser of a playing card being flipped over to reveal the number 2 to announce that season two was in the works. 

The eight-episode first season, which launched on the streaming service on Dec. 10, follows the unemployed video-game-obsessed Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), who suddenly finds himself in an abandoned version of Tokyo in which he and his best friends Karube (Keita Machida) and Chota (Yuki Morinaga) must compete in dangerous games in order to survive.

As reported by What’s On Netflix.com, the first season covered roughly 31 chapters of the manga, leaving another 33 chapters left to be covered in the upcoming second season.

Since its premiere, the survival series featuring life-and-death games in parallel Tokyo directed by Shinsuke Sato and written by Yasuko Kuramitsu, has become a worldwide hit. Aside from its popularity in Japan and across Asia, it’s made the Top 10 list in nearly 40 countries and territories.

While no exact date has been announced for the second season, with its swift renewal status, it’s highly likely that we’ll see it sometime in 2021.
