RUMOR: Charlie Cox to reprise role as Daredevil in 'Spider-Man 3'

Charlie Cox is reportedly reprising his role as Daredevil in Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man film.

As reported by Murphy’s Multiverse, a deal to bring Cox’s incarnation of the Man Without Fear in John Watt’s upcoming Spider-Man film “has been set in stone for several months now.”

Daredevil is about to be reborn in the MCU. That’s the latest bombshell we’ve heard from several of our trusted sources. Now that Netflix shows are toast, Kevin Feige finally has his chance to envision the characters to fit his ever-growing sandbox of a multi-platformed universe,” the report read.

Cox’s Matt Murdock first appeared on Netflix in 2015. The show served as an entryway that helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the streaming platform with spin-off series like Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. But after three seasons, Netflix pulled the plug on Cox’s show along with the other Marvel series.

Before the rumor mill started, the #SaveDaredevil campaign, which aims to rally support for a fourth season of the Marvel show, recently trended on social media after Netflix’s two-year ban on the character finally came to an end.

It can be recalled that the streaming giant included a clause in the contract that prevented Daredevil and other main characters from the Marvel TV series to appear on non-Netflix projects. But with the moratorium now lifted, this means that Matt Murdock’s alter ego may now appear on the third installment of the Spider-Man film.

"Unfortunately, Cox seems like the only figure salvaged from the Netflix wreckage at the moment so any hope of seeing the rest of the cast is up in the air. But yeah, Daredevil got saved," the report added.

Apart from Cox, Tobey Macquire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of the web-slinger are reportedly reprising their roles along with Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson), Jamie Foxx (Electro) and Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus) in the superhero movie.

In addition to the star-studded cast, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will also serve as a new mentor to Holland’s Parker in lieu of Tony Stark.

Of course, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt as Marvel or Cox hasn’t released an official statement on Daredevil’s involvement in the project.

The cast of the still untitled Spider-Man sequel includes Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon. The film is slated for release on Dec. 17, 2021.
