Timothée Chalamet is Edward Scissorhands' son in Super Bowl ad featuring Winona Ryder

The legacy of Tim Burton's classic film Edward Scissorhands lives on after more than 30 years in a new Super Bowl commercial for Cadillac.

Timothée Chalamet is perfectly cast as Edgar Scissorhands, Edward's son.

The 25-year old Dune star is joined by Winona Ryder, who reprises her iconic film role as Kim Boggs, Edward's love interest in the original 1990 film. The Stranger Things star plays Edgar’s onscreen mom, who witnesses the modern-day challenges he faces after inheriting his father’s scissorhands.

The classic Tim Burton film featured Johnny Depp in the title role of the young man gifted/cursed with scissors for hands by his creator (Vincent Price).

In the film, Edward is taken in by a suburban family and falls in love with their teenage daughter, Kim, played by Ryder.

Flash-forward to the present, and his son is struggling to navigate the world around him with the perfect blend of emo ennui and Goth vibes.

Like his sharp-fingered father, Edgar faces a lot of challenges doing everyday tasks. The ad follows a day in his life—from accidentally deflating a football during a game of catch, to getting shunned by a bus and having his mom driving him around. Edgar just can’t seem to find his place in the world, until Kim surprises him with a Cadillac Lyriq electric car, that offers a hands-free cruise control option.

It's a really cool concept for an ad and Chalamet just plays Edward's tortured son to perfection. Check out the nostalgic and enderaring commercial inspired by the cult classic film below.

Original Edward Scissorhands star Johnny Depp did not appear in the commercial with Ryder and Chalamet, but interestingly, Chalamet previously dated Depp's daughter, Lily-Rose, in real life.

As reported by Vanity Fair, the film's original director Tim Burton, wasn’t involved in the making of the spot, but he did give his stamp of approval for the ad. Burton said in a statement: "It's rare when a work you're proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years.

"I'm glad to see Edgar coping with the new world! I hope both fans and those being introduced to Edward Scissorhands for the first time enjoy it."
