Shin Megami Tensei V and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster raise hell on Nintendo Switch next year

Nintendo’s Direct Mini ended with a bang when they announced that Shin Megami Tensei V and Shin Megami Tensei III: HD Remaster would be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021.

During the end of last week’s Nintendo Direct Mini, fans everywhere were pleasantly surprised when Atlus announced that they would be remastering Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne for the Nintendo Switch. It was later announced that the remaster would also be coming to PlayStation 4 next year.

As if that bombshell of an announcement wasn’t enough, the Direct quickly shifted to Shin Megami Tensei V, a game that we have been waiting for since the Nintendo Switch was announced. We only saw a cinematic trailer with some new demons and the presumed protagonist but when you consider how the game’s last trailer was filled with empty areas, this is a huge improvement.

Nocturne was released back in 2003 for the PlayStation 2 and was widely praised for its apocalyptic story, addictive gameplay, and stunning visuals.

The game was also incredibly difficult, with fans needing to memorize the weaknesses of certain demons and grinding a ton of levels to get an advantage over bosses. It also featured Dante from Devil May Cry, who was an optional boss that could be recruited into the player’s party.

From what’s been shown thus far, we are pleasantly surprised with the way Nocturne looks on HD consoles. The game’s art style from 2003 still looks great today and we’re happy to see Atlus take the time to clean this title up for its widescreen debut in HD.

We hope they make a few quality of life improvements to make the game easier to get into and are keeping our fingers crossed that Atlus strikes a deal with Capcom to bring back Dante in this new version.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster is coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Spring 2021. Shin Megami Tensei V will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch and will get its worldwide release sometime in 2021 as well.
