Studio Ghibli releases 400 images to the public for free
Studio Ghibli, the well-loved Japanese film studio behind animated classics such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro and more, has just released 400 images from eight of their movies which the public is free to download and use.
In a show of goodwill, the studio made hundreds of stunning images from their movies available for fans to use free-of-charge.
The images are currently available for download from their official website. A handwritten message from Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki states: “Feel free to use it within the bounds of common sense.”
Get ready to feast your eyes on 50 breathtaking scenes from eight selected films namely: When Marnie Was There (2014), The Story of Princess Kaguya (2013), The Wind Rises (2013), From Up on Poppy Hill (2011), The Borrower Arrietty (2010), Ponyo on the Cliff (2008), Tales from Earthsea (2006) and Spirited Away (2001). Images from other films are expected to be added in the future.
With the ongoing threat of COVID-19, a lot of people have been stuck at home, so it's great to see how the acclaimed animation studio is spreading joy around the world through their films and gorgeous artwork.
Many of Studio Ghibli’s films are currently streaming on Netflix, sparking renewed interest from old fans and bringing joy to younger generations for the first time. Earlier this year, Studio Ghibli also released virtual backgrounds for video conferencing and web meetings, featuring stills from the studio’s most famous films.
The stunning hand-drawn animated scenes are a beautiful reminder of the magical worlds and beloved characters Studio Ghibli has introduced us to over the years.
You could easily just browse through all of these aesthetically pleasing landscapes all day. But the images can also be used as desktop wallpapers, inspiration for artists and aspiring animators, or can be printed out to decorate the walls of your home.
