‘Squid Game’ star Oh Youngsoo becomes the first Korean to bag a ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award at the Golden Globes
Oh Youngsoo, the actor who played Oh Ilnam (Player 001) in Netflix's Squid Game, bagged the Best Supporting Actor award at the 79th Golden Globes.
Youngsoo is the first Korean actor to receive the prestigious distinction for his role. The actor has been nominated alongside Kieran Culkin in Succession, Brett Goldstein in Ted Lasso, and Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass in The Morning Show.
In an official statement via MyDaily Korea, the 77-year-old actor said the award made him feel like a “decent guy” for the first time in his life.
“After hearing the news of the award, I told myself, ‘I’m a decent guy,’ for the first time in my life. Now, it’s no longer ‘us within the world,’ but it’s ‘the world within us.’ While embracing the scent of our culture and while embracing the love for my family deep in my heart, I give thanks to everyone in the world. I hope you all live beautiful lives. Thank you,” Youngsoo said, which has also been translated by Soompi.

Lee Jungjae (Seong Gihun) has also been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama, while Squid Game was nominated for Best Television Series – Drama, but they didn’t win.
