Lead star Charlize Theron confirms that the script for The Old Guard sequel is finished and is set to begin filming in the first quarter of 2022.

Theron (Andy) broke the news to Variety last Thursday (Wednesday, PT). The Oscar-winning actress said that the gay couple warriors Joe (Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marinelli) will be returning in the second film, “Oh, yeah! They’re definitely there.”

The Netflix action film released last year is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name, both written by Greg Rucka. The story follows a group of immortal warriors, led by Andy, which have been protecting humanity for centuries.

Rucka told DiscussingFilm shortly after the release that a sequel was already in discussion, although nothing was confirmed at that time.

The live-action adaption climbed to Netflix’s top 10 most popular films. It won the 2020 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture, helmed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.

The Old Guard is available for streaming on Netflix Philippines.
