In case you missed it, President Rodrigo Duterte has lifted the mandatory use of face shields in areas under Alert Level 1 to 3.

Based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), wearing of face shields will be eased and depend on lockdown alert levels:

• For Areas under Alert Levels 1, 2, and 3, the use of face shields is voluntary.

• For Alert Level 4, local government units (LGUs) and private establishments are given the discretion to mandate the use of face shields.

• For Alert Level 5 and areas under granular lockdown, the use of face shields is mandatory.

As of writing, the Philippines is facing a decline of COVID-19 cases, with NCR placed under Alert Level 2 until Nov. 30.

With face shields long being a staple in the Filipinos' pandemic experience, its removal has been met with sighs of relief and celebrations from social media. Face shield and #FaceShieldNoMore soon trended after the announcement, with many bidding their farewells.

Amid the calls for celebration, others have recalled how its use has affected their daily lives, and how they can be properly disposed of in the long run.

On the other hand, the lifting of the policy has also given hope for others that Filipinos will be ready to face a COVID-free world sometime in the future.

The country has recorded a total of 2,818,511 COVID-19 positive cases, with 45,709 deaths and 2,745,777 recoveries. There are over 27,000 active cases in the country as of writing.
