The Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, halts production for two days after one of its crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

Following industry guidelines, the production team shuts down filming for a few days in order to isolate, while those who were in close contact are required to undergo quarantine. Production is expected to resume on Wednesday.

Currently the UK is experiencing a surge in its cases due to the COVID-19 Delta variant with almost 50,000 new cases a day. Last week there was a record of 261,832 new cases.

House of the Dragon isn’t the only show being filmed in the UK that has suddenly halted its filming due to COVID-19. Not long ago, Netflix’s Bridgerton had to postpone filming for its second season due to members of its cast and crew contracting the virus.

The HBO fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, tells the story of House Targaryen and is set 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones. Martin Ryan and Ryan Condal serve as the co-creators of the new series. Condal is joined by Miguel Sapochnik as showrunners with Martin, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess and Ron Schmidt as executive producers.

House of the Dragon stars Emma D’ Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon aka “The Sea Snake,” Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.

House of the Dragon started production last April and is slated for a 2022 release.
